Listen to stories of Saltaire

B1-267: West view of Salts Mill, late nineteenth century

Now available: audio stories of Saltaire

We have just added a brand new feature to our website – five stories from the history of Saltaire read out loud by a cast of our volunteer voice actors.

The stories are 5 to 8 minutes long and provide brief introductions to the industrial, social and personal history of Saltaire. Each has a text transcript available.

Have a listen to:

  • Sam on what Sir Titus Salt did for fifty years before he built Saltaire.
  • Harrison on why Sir Titus built his new mill and village at Saltaire.
  • Adam on how Sir James Roberts built on Salt’s foundations to preserve and develop Saltaire.
  • Daisy on the life and campaigns of Sir Titus’s granddaughter Isabel Salt
  • Louise on the life a young child growing up in Saltaire at the turn of the twentieth century

Here’s Adam on Sir James, but please follow the link below to listen to all of the stories.
